The dwarf pike cichlid is a particularly slender member of the genus Crenicichla and originates from South America. With its elongated body, pike-like head, and subtle, longitudinal markings, it appears extremely elegant and purposeful. Despite its predatory nature, Crenicichla compressiceps is one of the smaller and comparatively calmer pike cichlids.
This species prefers to stay near the bottom and in the mid-water column. It thrives in well-structured aquariums with roots, rocks, and hiding places. It is generally docile towards similarly sized fish, but smaller prey fish are considered food. It is best kept as a pair or singly in a species-only tank or a suitable community tank.
