Collection: snails

In marine aquariums, shelled snails are the most common, with few exceptions. Although there are many beautiful, colorful nudibranchs in the ocean, these are highly specialized feeders and would not survive in an aquarium. The snails in a marine aquarium primarily serve to eat algae, thus cleaning the glass and rockwork.

Popular algae-eating snail genera include Tectus and Nerita. Generally, one snail is introduced per 10 liters of aquarium water as soon as the first green algae become visible during the aquarium's cycling process. Additionally, there are sand-burrowing snails such as Cerithium and Nassarius, which loosen and clean the substrate.
