The Yellow King Kong shrimp ( Caridina serrata ) is a bright yellow dwarf shrimp that is characterized by its strong, even coloring. It is a cultivated variety that is highly valued for its intense color and robust nature. This shrimp species adds a bright color accent to any aquarium and is very popular among aquarists.
Characteristics:
- Size : The Yellow King Kong shrimp reaches a size of about 2.5 to 3 cm. Females are usually slightly larger and plumper than males.
- Coloration : Its striking, solid yellow coloration is its trademark. Unlike many other dwarf shrimp, the Yellow King Kong shrimp has no patterns or stripes, giving it a clean, uniform appearance.
- Behavior : These shrimp are peaceful and do well in groups or with other peaceful shrimp and small fish. They are very active and constantly search the aquarium for food.
Attitude:
- Aquarium size : A tank of 20 liters or more is sufficient for a small group. Dense plants, roots and moss are ideal as they provide hiding places and surfaces for algae growth.
- Water values : The Yellow King Kong shrimp prefers soft to medium hard water. Ideal pH values are between 6.0 and 7.5 at temperatures of 20 to 26 °C. It reacts sensitively to strong fluctuations in water parameters, which is why stable water quality is important.
- Food : These shrimp are omnivores and feed on algae, detritus and special shrimp food. They also happily eat plant-based food such as spinach and occasionally protein food such as mosquito larvae or brine shrimp.
- Reproduction : The Yellow King Kong shrimp reproduces relatively well. After a gestation period of about 30 days, the young shrimp hatch and are immediately independent. A balanced diet and stable water conditions promote reproduction.
Special features:
The Yellow King Kong shrimp impresses with its rich, solid yellow coloring, which creates a beautiful contrast in planted aquariums. It is a relatively undemanding shrimp, which makes it attractive for beginners as well as advanced aquarists. This shrimp is a great choice for shrimp lovers who prefer bold colors in their aquarium.
