The white-spotted cichlid ( Tropheus duboisi ) is one of the best-known and most fascinating representatives of the Tanganyika cichlids. Juveniles display a deep black base color with numerous white spots – a spectacular contrast that makes them unmistakable even at a young age. As they age, the pattern transforms, and they develop the bluish head markings with a light central band typical of the species – a true natural spectacle in the aquarium.
In its natural habitat , Tropheus duboisi inhabits the rocky shorelines of Lake Tanganyika, where it feeds on algae growth. This feeding behavior makes it a typical algae grazer, which also prefers a predominantly plant-based diet in the aquarium.
