Vesicularia montagnei, which comes from Indonesia, is known as Christmas moss because of its pine-frond-shaped shoots. It grows easily on wood and stones and is ideal for the middle ground of decorative materials, where it leaves a very rustic impression. It can also be tied up well in the foreground on flat stones or simply grown freely.
If left unpruned, the attractive cushions reach an impressive size. They can be easily divided to propagate. If pruning is necessary, the cut shoots can be reused for tying.
Christmas moss looks particularly good in aquascapes and shrimp aquariums. It also looks good emersed in moist terrariums, as long as there are no herbivorous inhabitants. Shrimp appreciate the fronds because biofilms form here and some detritus settles, which they like to graze on.
