Crinum thaianum, also known as water onion or water cup, is an impressive plant from the lily family (Amaryllidaceae) that makes a striking appearance in aquariums. This plant is relatively easy to care for, but needs plenty of space due to its size. When planting, care should be taken to ensure that about two thirds of the bulb remains visible to avoid rot.
As it ages, Crinum thaianum can develop a long flower stalk that extends above the water surface and produces a fragrant, elegant flower reminiscent of lilies. Due to its tough and resilient leaves, it is generally not eaten by herbivorous fish. In addition to keeping in aquariums, it is also well suited to indoor ponds.
In Thailand, the bulb of this plant is traditionally used in skin care products, which underlines its versatility. Crinum thaianum is a decorative and easy-care addition to any aquarium or indoor pond setup.
