The Spiky Moss (Taxiphyllum sp.) is grown in the laboratory and is therefore free of algae, parasites, snails and pollutants. Pre-watering is not necessary; it is sufficient to rinse off the nutrient gel before using the moss directly in the aquarium.
Spiky moss is also known as peacock moss. It is the same species, although it has not yet been identified. The moss resembles Christmas moss in its growth, but is larger and stronger. It grows very densely, and its well-branched, triangular-shaped shoots are flat.
This extremely attractive spiky moss is ideal for covering decorative materials such as roots or stones. However, it does not grow well on the ground, so it must be trimmed and re-tied occasionally.
Propagating Spiky Moss is easy: you can cut off shoots and tie them back on.
In addition to its use in shrimp aquariums and aquascapes, Spiky Moss can also be cultivated emersed in humid terrariums.
