Silver tiger bass (Datnioides polota)

The silver tigerfish is a peaceful to moderately territorial predatory fish from South and Southeast Asia. It is distinguished by its silvery-gold base color and dark crossbands. Compared to other tigerfish species, it remains somewhat smaller and is more robust in slightly brackish water.

Care instructions:

• Size: Up to approx. 35 cm

• Water parameters: Temperature 24–30 °C, pH 7–8; can be kept in slightly brackish water.

• Diet: Meaty – pieces of fish, shrimp, mussel meat, live or frozen food

• Behavior: Calm but assertive loner; usually peaceful towards similarly sized species.

Instructions for keeping the animal:

• Minimum edge length of the aquarium: approx. 150 cm

• Aquarium with sandy substrate, roots and hiding places

• Good filtration and regular water changes are required.

• Do not keep with very small fish – they will be seen as prey.

• Recommended for experienced aquarists
