The Red Fire Cherry Shrimp ( Neocaridina davidi ), also known as the "Red Cherry Shrimp", is one of the most popular dwarf shrimp in the aquarium hobby. It is known for its intense red coloring, which is particularly effective in densely planted aquariums. These shrimp are popular not only because of their attractive appearance, but also because of their easy care and their usefulness as algae eaters.
Characteristics:
- Size : Females grow up to 3 cm, while males remain slightly smaller.
- Coloration : The Red Fire Cherry shrimp are characterized by a bright red, although the intensity of the color varies depending on the breeding line.
- Behavior : They are peaceful and sociable, prefer to live in groups and are well suited to community aquariums.
Attitude:
- Aquarium size : Red Fire Shrimp can be kept well from 20 liters.
- Water values : They are very adaptable and tolerate a wide range of water parameters. Ideal temperatures are between 18 and 28°C, a pH value of 6.5 to 8.0 and soft to medium hard water.
- Food : The shrimp are omnivores and feed on algae, leftover food, vegetables and special shrimp food. They help keep the aquarium clean by removing detritus and algae.
- Reproduction : Red Fire shrimp reproduce easily in the aquarium. After about 30 days of gestation, the female releases fully developed young shrimp, which are immediately independent.
Special features:
Due to their robust nature, Red Fire Cherry shrimp are ideal for beginners in shrimp keeping. They are also useful in the aquarium as they eat algae and keep the tank clean. Their bright red color makes them a beautiful eye-catcher in any planted aquarium.
