The palette surgeonfish ( Paracanthurus hepatus ) , also known as the blue tang or "Dory" from the famous animated film, is one of the most popular marine fish worldwide. With its striking blue and black markings and contrasting yellow tail fin , it's a real eye-catcher in any reef aquarium. Even as a young fish of small to medium size (3-4 cm) , it is very robust, active, and adapts well to aquarium conditions – perfect for beginners and experienced aquarists alike.

Coloration: Typical for Paracanthurus hepatus is the strong royal blue body coloration with a characteristic black pattern and a bright yellow tail fin . Even juveniles clearly display this striking pattern.

Behavior: The palette surgeonfish is an active, peaceful swimmer that constantly roams the aquarium. It is an excellent algae eater and contributes to the biological stability of the tank.

Aquarium size: 600 liters or more are recommended, as this species requires plenty of swimming space as it grows. A well-structured reef with open swimming areas is ideal.

Socialization: Very compatible with other peaceful, not too small fish. Multiple palette surgeonfish should only be kept in very large tanks with plenty of space.

Diet: Eats plant-based foods such as nori seaweed and spirulina, as well as frozen and live foods. A varied diet with high-quality granules supports growth and color intensity.
