The Pangasius catfish ( Pangasianodon hypophthalmus ), also known as the Siamese shark catfish, is a fascinating, peaceful schooling fish from Southeast Asia. With its streamlined body, high dorsal fin, and elegant swimming style, it resembles a real shark – hence its name. Even as juveniles, it displays the species' typical silvery-gray coloration with dark fin edges.

In its natural habitat, the Pangasianodon hypophthalmus inhabits large river systems such as the Mekong and Chao Phraya. It is extremely active, prefers open swimming space, and is a sociable fish that should be kept in groups of at least 5-6 individuals. Because this species grows very large, it is only suitable for large aquariums or display tanks.
