The Orange Tiger Shrimp ( Caridina serrata ) is a vibrant and colorful dwarf shrimp that is characterized by its striking orange coloring and the characteristic dark stripes that look like tiger stripes. This shrimp species is a popular choice among aquarists who are looking for a robust yet decorative shrimp species for their tank.
Characteristics:
- Size : Orange tiger shrimps grow to about 2.5 to 3 cm in size. Females are often slightly larger and plumper than the males.
- Coloration : The shrimps have a bright orange to transparent orange base coloration, with dark, tiger-like horizontal stripes. This pattern gives the species its name and makes for an attractive sight in the aquarium.
- Behavior : Orange tiger shrimp are very active and peaceful. They are constantly looking for food and love to search the substrate and plants for leftover food and algae. They get along well with other peaceful shrimp species and small fish.
Attitude:
- Aquarium size : An aquarium of at least 20 liters is sufficient for a small group of orange tiger shrimp. They appreciate dense plants, roots and stones, which serve as hiding places and places to retreat.
- Water values : Orange tiger shrimps are relatively robust and adaptable. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH value of 6.0 to 7.5 and temperatures between 18 and 26 °C. Soft to medium hard water is ideal for this shrimp species.
- Food : The shrimp feed on algae, detritus and special shrimp food. They also like to eat plant foods such as spinach and occasionally protein-rich foods in the form of small live foods or shrimp pellets.
- Reproduction : The Orange Tiger Shrimp is easy to breed in the aquarium. Females carry their eggs under their abdomen for about 3 to 4 weeks until the young shrimp hatch. They are immediately independent and can be raised with fine shrimp food.
Special features:
The Orange Tiger Shrimp is a real eye-catcher in the aquarium due to its bright color and striking stripes. It is ideal for beginners in shrimp keeping as it is relatively easy to care for and reproduces well. Its striking coloring brings lively color accents to any aquarium and can easily be kept with other dwarf shrimp species.
