The Madagascar lattice plant (Aponogeton madagascariensis) is endemic to the island of Madagascar and reaches a height of up to 50 cm in the aquarium. Its unique lattice structure makes it an extremely popular solitary plant, but it also sets interesting accents in the background.

In nature, Aponogeton madagascariensis grows in cool flowing waters. Caring for it in an aquarium can be challenging. If growth stops, the plant needs a rest period of about four weeks. To do this, it should be stored in a separate tank in a cool, dark place. It can then be put back into the aquarium. The supply of micronutrients and iron via the water column can help to extend this rest period. On the other hand, a substrate that is too rich in nutrients is not well tolerated.

The strong tuber should be placed in the aquarium without burying it completely so that it can unfold its fascinating lattice-shaped leaves.
