The striped otocinclus catfish is a small, very popular algae eater from South America. Its slender body with the distinctive dark longitudinal stripe gives it a subtle, natural appearance. Due to its peaceful nature and small adult size, Otocinclus vittatus is ideally suited for community and planted aquariums.
This species prefers to live in groups and only then does it exhibit its natural behavior. The striped otocinclus catfish usually stays near plants, the glass, and decorations, and is tireless in its search for biofilm and fine algae. A well-established aquarium with a stable biofilm is particularly important for successful keeping.
