The L226 Iquitos Tiger Pleco ( Panaqolus changae ) is a beautiful, rare wild-caught specimen from the region around Iquitos in Peru. Its high-contrast tiger-like pattern with bright orange-brown and dark crossbands makes it a true gem for any South American aquarium.

Panaqolus changae remains small, reaching a maximum size of about 10–12 cm, and is one of the most peaceful members of its genus. It is a typical wood-eater that likes to stay among roots and, due to its calm behavior, is ideally suited for community aquariums.

The L226 Iquitos Tiger Pleco is a typical wood-eater ( xylophagous ). It requires soft driftwood in the aquarium, which it constantly rasps on. It also eats plant-based foods such as spirulina, vegetable chips, zucchini, cucumber, and seaweed wafers. Occasionally, some frozen food can be offered.

Good oxygenation, regular water changes, and a structurally diverse aquarium with plenty of roots are crucial for the health and well-being of the L226. The colors of the L226 appear particularly vibrant against a dark substrate.
