The Golden-bearded Catfish ( Sturisomatichthys aureus ) is an elegant, peaceful wild-caught fish from the clear, fast-flowing rivers of Colombia. It owes its name to the characteristic golden-shimmering barbels, which are particularly pronounced in adult males. With its slender, streamlined body and wide-spreading fins, it is a real eye-catcher in any aquarium.
This calm, graceful species belongs to the so-called sturgeon catfish and is perfectly adapted to oxygen-rich, gently flowing waters. Sturisomatichthys aureus is an excellent eater of algae and biofilm, sparing plants and contributing to the natural cleanliness of the aquarium.
