The Altoflava cichlid ( Amatitlania altoflava ) is a rare and peaceful representative of the Central American cichlids. It is distinguished by its golden-yellow base color and the subtle dark vertical stripes, which give it an elegant appearance. Its colors intensify significantly, especially during the breeding season – males then display bright yellow fins and more vibrant body markings.
In its natural habitat, the clear rivers and streams of Panama, Amatitlania altoflava lives among roots, stones, and plants. In the aquarium, it is robust, adaptable, and very interesting to observe. It is ideally suited for well-structured community tanks with peaceful tank mates.
