The Blue Velvet Shrimp ( Neocaridina davidi ) is an attractive dwarf shrimp that stands out with its intense, velvety blue coloring. It is a variant of the well-known Neocaridina davidi and is very popular in aquariums. Due to its striking color and uncomplicated care, it is ideal for both beginners and experienced aquarists.
Characteristics:
- Size : Females can grow up to 3 cm, while males remain slightly smaller.
- Coloration : The Blue Velvet shrimp has a rich, deep blue to light blue coloration that enriches the aquarium and looks particularly good against a green background.
- Behavior : These shrimp are peaceful and sociable. They should be kept in groups to encourage their natural behavior. They get along well with other shrimp species and peaceful fish.
Attitude:
- Aquarium size : A tank of at least 20 liters is sufficient for keeping Blue Velvet Shrimp. They prefer a well-planted aquarium with moss and hiding places such as stones and roots.
- Water values : The Blue Velvet shrimp is very adaptable and thrives at temperatures between 18 and 28°C, a pH value of 6.5 to 8.0 and soft to medium hard water. Good water quality is important to maintain its strong color.
- Food : These shrimp are omnivorous and feed on algae, detritus, leftover food, plant material and special shrimp food. They help keep the aquarium clean by eliminating algae and waste.
- Reproduction : Reproduction is easy in the aquarium. Females carry the eggs under their abdomens and after about 30 days the young shrimp hatch and are immediately independent.
