Nesaea crassicaulis is an attractive aquarium plant from Africa that is characterized by its high light requirements. It grows to a height of 30-50 cm and reaches a width of 8-15 cm. Its growth is particularly promoted in soft, slightly acidic water. It is important that the lower leaves also receive sufficient light, otherwise they may turn black and fall off.
The plant resembles the Ammannia species and is often confused with them, but can be easily distinguished in the aquarium by its characteristic yellow-green stem. Propagating Nesaea crassicaulis is easy: side shoots or cuttings can be cut off and planted directly in the substrate, where they quickly take root.
